House Concert 20
Friday, February 20, 2009, 8:00pm
Kenny Washington (vocals)
Suggested donation: Our last concert featured Kenny Washington, Art Hirahara and Anton. It was a blast and, when the seats sold out, we promised that we'd have a "rematch" soon for those who couldn't be there... as well as those who were there and wanted to hear more. Well, New York based Art Hirahara was headed to LA for a gig, and he agreed to make a quick stop in the Bay Area to play a couple gigs together... so here it is! This time we've added bassist extraordinaire John Wiitala to the mix to make a quartet. The doors open at 7:30pm and music will start at 8:00, with a half hour intermission midway through the concert for folks to mingle and enjoy some wine or soft drinks and nibbles. Seating is limited, so reservations are required -- see below. We ask for a contribution of per person, which covers the musicians, as well as the beverages, chairs, piano tuning and the like. The loft is in an historic 1917 school building, three stories tall, recessed from the street. The space is comfortable and quick to get to from all directions -- you can find the address and directions here. Please go directly to unit #2, which has its own separate door on the left side of the front of the building. We'll open the doors one half hour prior to the performance. Do try to be there on time. After that we will only be letting people in between songs. Please do not ring the doorbell while a song is in progress -- you'll be able to hear that through the door. Dinner suggestions:
Miyozen (sushi / japanese)
Dona Tomas (exquisite mexican food & atmosphere)
La Calaca Loca (cheap, delicious & healthy taqueria)
Los Cantaros (great cheap mexican, even closer by)
Le Cheval (great & affordable vietnamese)
Asqew Grill (casual skewers)
Rudy's "Can't Fail" Cafe (funky diner) |
