House Concert 17
Sunday, July 8, 2006, 7:30pm
Inga Swearingen (vocal)
Suggested donation: It's hard to decide what's most remarkable about Inga Swearingen: her gorgeous voice, her dead-on pitch, her effortlessly natural phrasing, or her infectious positive spirit. Inga is based in San Luis Obispo, so her Bay Area appearances are quite infrequent. In 2003 she was the winner of the first Shure Jazz Voice competition at the world-renowned Montreux Jazz Festival, receiving both the vote of the judges ("First Place") and the audience ("Prize of the Public"). She has been featured several times on the live NPR broadcast "A Prairie Home Companion" with Garrison Keillor. For more information about Inga, visit her web site. The doors open at 7:00pm and music will start at 7:30, with a half hour intermission midway through the concert for folks to mingle and enjoy some wine or soft drinks and nibbles. Seating is limited, so reservations are required -- see below. We ask for a contribution of per person, which covers the musicians, as well as the beverages, chairs and the like. The loft is in an historic 1917 school building, three stories tall, recessed from the street. The space is comfortable and quick to get to from all directions -- you can find the address and directions here. Please go directly to unit #2, which has its own separate door on the left side of the front of the building. We'll open the doors one half hour prior to the performance. Do try to be there on time. After that we will only be letting people in between songs. Please do not ring the doorbell while a song is in progress -- you'll be able to hear that through the door.
