House Concert 21 Friday, March 20, 2009, 8:00pm
Adam, John, Tim and Anton
performing at SFJAZZ Summer Series
Anton Schwartz (sax)
Suggested donation: This concert will feature drumming phenom Tim Bulkley, in town from New York, as well as Bay Area standouts Adam Shulman and John Shifflett. Tim is a veteran of a half dozen house concerts, but Adam and John have only appeared once before, despite our frequent collaborations elsewhere. (We've played literally hundreds of gigs together, and John is on three of my CDs...) The rapport the four of us have built over the years will make for an evening that is at once relaxed and energetic. The doors open at 7:30pm and music will start at 8:00, with a half hour intermission midway through the concert for folks to mingle and enjoy some wine or soft drinks and nibbles. Seating is limited, so reservations are required -- see below. We ask for a contribution of per person, which covers the musicians, as well as the beverages, chairs, piano tuning and the like. The loft is in an historic 1917 school building, three stories tall, recessed from the street. The space is comfortable and quick to get to from all directions -- you can find the address and directions here. Please go directly to unit #2, which has its own separate door on the left side of the front of the building. We'll open the doors one half hour prior to the performance. Do try to be there on time. Once the music begins, we will only be letting people in between songs. Please do not ring the doorbell while a song is in progress -- you'll be able to hear that through the door. Dinner suggestions:
Miyozen (sushi / japanese)
Dona Tomas (exquisite mexican food & atmosphere)
La Calaca Loca (cheap, delicious & healthy taqueria)
Los Cantaros (great cheap mexican, even closer by)
Le Cheval (great & affordable vietnamese)
Asqew Grill (casual skewers)
Rudy's "Can't Fail" Cafe (funky diner) |
